STARCH DOSAGE OPTIMISATION IN CHEESE GRATERS

The Requirement

A major industrial agri-business group wanted to improve the distribution of starch on cheese graters.  

 

The Raw Materials

The starch is stored in 1-ton Big Bags.

 

The Implemented Procedure

The supply of the starch feeders, installed on two cheese processing lines (grated and stamps), is now carried out via flexible augers. "It was essential to reduce the strain of a task that until then was performed manually, states the engineering project manager. Automatisation made it possible to put the operators back into the core of the equipment operation system. "

 

The feeders were installed in the attic which limited the space taken up in the production workshop. "A first 34-metre spire connects the big-bag of starch, now stored in the premises reserved for dry materials, with the first feeder. Starting from this point, a specific by-pass allows a second 14-metre auger to feed the second feeder."

 

The possibility offered by the auger of the starch feeder at specific points has favoured the capturing of dust and has made it possible to concentrate the inflow of raw materials, which optimises their distribution during mixing. "In addition, we have enjoyed significant savings with the cleaning phases for the workshop and in terms of maintenance work, such as renewing the textile sheaths."
